Executive Mission Aviators (EMAs) enable the 89th Airlift Wing’s uniquely visible, high-consequence mission by delivering world-class airborne capability in direct support of national leadership—anytime, anywhere, under any conditions.
What is an EMA?
The EMA community integrates three enlisted aircrew specialties into a single operational team:
Flight Engineer (FE)
FE’s focus on aircraft performance and systems management to keep the mission safe, efficient, and on time.
- Compute performance, weight & balance, and mission planning considerations
- Monitor aircraft systems and coordinate abnormal/emergency actions
- Serve as a key advisor to the aircraft commander on aircraft capability and limitations
Communication Systems Operator (CSO)
CSO’s enable secure voice/data connectivity and manage mission communications in dynamic environments.
- Operate secure/non-secure communications and mission information flow
- Configure and troubleshoot onboard comm systems in flight and on the ground
- Support continuity of leadership communications during time-sensitive operations
Flight Attendant (FA)
FA’s ensure passenger safety, mission service, and cabin operations—while remaining ready for contingencies.
- Execute passenger safety briefings, cabin safety procedures, and emergency response
- Manage cabin operations in a high-visibility environment
- Support mission requirements with professionalism and discretion
What You’ll Do
- Support executive airlift operations across multiple aircraft platforms
- Operate in dynamic, high-visibility environments worldwide
- Execute mission-critical duties under time-sensitive and austere conditions
- Represent the United States Air Force at the highest levels
What We’re Looking For
- Enlisted Airmen eligible for retraining or cross-training
- Ability to meet aircrew medical and physical standards
- Eligibility for a Top Secret clearance
- Demonstrated professionalism, judgment, and adaptability
- Minimum retainability following qualification
